DAY 02 : SIEM REAP – Angkor Thom With An Archaeologist & Evening Khmer Food Tasting

Stretching over some 400 sq. kilometres and consisting of scores of temples, hydraulic structures (basins, dykes, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes, Angkor was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom from the 9th to the 15th century.

10:00, after a leisure breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide at the hotel lobby and start your exploration to the soul of the Kingdom of Cambodia accompanied together by a renowned archaeologist.

Discover the huge walled city of Angkor Thom, where is not the temple but an entire huge walled city of 9 square kilometres and the royal Capital from 1181. With a population of 1 million, it was far bigger than any city in Europe at the time. Visit the richly decorated Bayon temple at its heart, where 216 enigmatic gigantic faces of King Jayavarman VII smile down at you from every tower.

Enjoy a picnic lunch and take a short break.

Marvel at the ruined temple-monastery of Ta Prohm, which is slowly being reclaimed by the jungle. Continue to Baphuong and learn about the project of conservation has undergone to get back the get back at its majestic appearance. Then, join the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King via Phimeanakas, a small yet wonderful temple hidden in a multi-century old forest behind the terraces.

Later, return to town and hop on a Vespa. Whisk away to gain an authentic insight into Cambodia food the way the locals like it. As darkness begins to fall, it is an ideal time to travel around the town to sample the delicious local snacks with new friends. Take a walk through the alleys and side streets around the old market area tasting as you go. You can even have a local beer or two if you so wish to wash all the tasty morsels down.

Breakfast at the hotel.

08:00, your exploration starts as you enter the rear gate of Angkor Wat, the 500-acre complex, one of the largest religious monuments in the world and represents the architectural pinnacle of the Khmer Empire.

Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it has remained a place of worship since its founding in the 12th century. Thought to be a miniature replica of the universe, its composition of towers, moats and concentric walls reveals an architectural sophistication, and the bas-reliefs with their plump figures and triumphal battle scenes reflect a robust, healthy and wealthy period of history.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

After a long break, let our qualified instructors bring you to take in the sights of authentic countryside beauty of Cambodia on a 1.15-minute easy quad bike ride through rice paddies and villages away from the well maintained roads. Engage in local life as it passes slowly by before return returning to town.

Warm up your night with a dinner at a lovely restaurant.

For a spirited medley of live music and high energy gymnastics (with a good dose of flame juggling thrown in for good measure), do not miss Phare Circus Show. Tonight at 18:00, let us wow your evening with a must-see daringly modern performance of Cambodia. Enjoy an evening full of amusement and incredible from a different perspective - not as you know about this ancient culture. Later, return to your hotel and overnight in Siem Reap.

Stroll through the tranquil village learning about the day-to-day life of the authentic countryside Cambodian.

Continue your journey by taking a 30-minute ox cart ride along the rice fields and rustic wooden houses. Back to the village and visit a local market where you explore local traditions, sample and learn about some common ingredients used in Khmer cuisine.
