Day 09 KEP / Rabbit Island

Day 01 : Siem Reap


Morning arrival at Siem Reap Airport. Welcome by your local English speaking guide and transfer to the hotel. (Room available at 2pm)

Lunch – FREE – At your own expense

In the afternoon, visit of the Panorama Museum, a first insight of the Angkor Archaeological Park. The first part of this museum is devoted to the presentation of the main temples of Angkor. You will then get close to a realistic 360 degree painting, representing the different elements of everyday life during the Angkorian era. You will end the visit with the projection of an animated film explaining the incredible organization needed for the construction of the site.

Overnight in a hotel in Siem Reap.

DAY 02 : SIEM REAP – Angkor with guide

First discovery of the Angkor site. You will leave your hotel by Tuk-Tuk to reach Phnom Bakheng hill before sunrise. From the summit, you will enjoy the sunrise on the angkorian forest. Then, you will go back down the hill and head to a small traditional village with houses made of wood and palmer leafs. There, you will enjoy breakfast not far away from the healer’s house allowing you to get close to some Ancestral practices that may soon over the years vanish. After, you will walk on the dyke to the Baray Occidental bringing you through a first pagoda before reaching the Mebon Temple (by foot or by boat depending on the season) located in the center of the angkorian area.

In the afternoon, you will continue to walk on the sandy dyke. Stop offs to discover some pre-Angkorian sites evidently anterior to the construction of the reservoir. You will leave the site to go for a stroll on a red muddy path in the middle of the villages. Stop en route to discover the local and seasonal activities. Transfer back to the hotel at the end of the afternoon.

Overnight at the hotel in Sen Monorom. 

The accessibility to the Mebon Temple will be done by boat or by foot depending on the water level of the tank (20min. of navigation or 3 km walking). As the Mebon temple is being renovated by the Ecole Française d'Extrême Orient, the site can only be visited from the outside.

DAY 03 : Siem Reap - Angkor - With Guide

Breakfast at the hotel.

Departure from your hotel to go to Angkor Wat to admire sunrise. This monument dating from the early 12th century is a masterpiece of architecture, recounting in its galleries the epic battles of Hindu mythology as well as the major stages of the culture of that time. You will reach the top of the Bakan central tower to admire the most beautiful goddesses and dominate the whole mountain temple. Then, you will leave the temple by walking along the moat before heading into the jungle on a small path. Stop en route to visit the ruins of Kapilapura. You willsee the fortification of the royal city of Angkor Thom to reach the door of victory. You will continue walking to discover some forgotten monuments of Angkor Thom.

Lunch in a local restaurant on site.

In the afternoon, enjoy a stroll through the main monuments; starting with the elephant terrace where kings attended the processions. Continue through the royal palace park and the Phimeanakas temple before climbing on the Baphuon. You will discover the Bayon and its 50 face towers, embodying the smile of Angkor. You will discover the bas-reliefs depicting daily life and the customs of that time. You will leave Angkor Thom by car to reach the site of Banteay Srei, located 35km away.  Known as the women citadel, it includes some sculptures of exceptional quality. Return to the hotel at the end of the day.

Overnight at the hotel in Siem Reap. 

The tour in the Bakan Tower in Angkor Wat requires covering shoulders and knees. Wearing a scarf is not permitted. The Bakan Tower is closed to the public on Buddhist days, once a week.


Breakfast at the hotel.

In the early morning, transfer to reach the 3 brick towers of Batchum. You will start walking through the rice fields to reach Srah Srang pond. Then you will arrive at Rohal village and its local market. Through the rice fields you will discover the ruins of the small temple of Kuticvara before visiting Ta Prohm, a former monastery renowned for the charm of the Kapok Tree roots that embed the stone blocks. On the way you will go through a village where musical instruments are made. The path passes through the temple of Ta Nei, lost in the forest before arriving at Preah Khan temple and its mazes of doors that hide some of the finest sculptures.

In the afternoon, aboard a pirogue, you will reach Neak Pean and its purifying ponds. You will continue through the remains of the flooded forest populated by many species of birds. Then, by foot you will head to the small temple of Ta Som and its East door invaded by roots and then, the temple of Mebon in the center of the Baray Oriental. End the day by climbing the steps of Pre Rup Temple to admire the sunset at the top of this mountain temple.

Overnight at the hotel in Siem Reap. 

The accessibility to Neak Pean Temple will be done by boat if the water level is sufficient. Depending on the local conditions, the itinerary could be modified (1H30 navigation of 30min and a 2km walk or a 4km walk if it is impossible to take the pirogue in the dry season. (April/May)

Then, you will head to Preah Vihear. Stop en route to discover the site of Koh Ker, former capital of the Khmer kingdom during fifteen years in the first half of the 10th century. The 36 km2 site has about forty temples lost in the vegetation. Far away from Angkor, this site has not benefited from all the efforts of excavation and restoration compared to its rival. It nevertheless contains very interesting and sometimes well preserved remains that you will have the pleasure to discover away from crowds..

In the afternoon, you will start by ascending the hill before you continue on the rocky flat paths that go through the forest. En route, you will have the opportunity to observe the medical plantation and insects that inhabits this isolated area. Have a rest alongside the river before settling down at the pagoda where you will spend the night. The pagoda is located at the edge of a cliff with a breathtaking view. You will hear the scream of the monkeys inhabiting this forest that are still preserved from man.

Walking day through the forest on the plateau. You will discover a rocky cavity set up meant for retreats and meditation in the jungle and then, near the trail, caves that shelter loggers and hunters of the region. You will go through the rivers that crisscross the plateau before arriving at the site of the ancient village where only a few potteries remain and the memory of the stories of those who knew the life of this isolated community.

You will continue to walk and pass by Angkorian vestiges, visible signs of the ancient settlement of the communities on the plateau. You will go deeper into the jungle before reaching the only village. Then, you will go back to the pagoda to spend the night. This remote place is favorable to hermits and monks seeking for a meditation.place.

At the edge of the cliff, you will observe the clouds rising from the plain. After breakfast you will walk to reach a river and its waterfall (depending on the season) very popular for Cambodians. The path leads to a pagoda at the top of an immense staircase used by the pilgrims. You will continue at the back of a 4x4 before getting to your vehicle.

Then, you will go through the provinces of Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham to reach Phnom Penh capital. You will have the opportunity to see the Cambodian countryside with its rice field landscapes dotted with "Thnot", the emblematic sugar palm of Cambodia. Along the way, you will stop to taste the tarantulas of the local market of Skun, one of the many insects very appreciated by the Cambodians. Settle down at the hotel at the end of the day.

Dinner-cruise at sunset to enjoy the city built between the Tonle Sap and Mekong River. Admire the magnificent view at night of Phnom Penh.

DAY 08 : PHNOM PENH – KEP - with guide

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast, you will go for a tour to visit the main monuments of the capital with the Royal Palace and its many buildings. You will see the main residence of King Sihamoni. You continue the visit with the Silver Pagoda, paved with 500 silver blocks of 1kg, each. It houses the frescoes inspired by the Ramayana and other treasures of the crown as well as a very beautiful collection of Buddha.

Then, visit of the National Museum which houses, in a building built by a French architect in the Khmer style, a very rich collections of Khmer art, especially statuary. Most of the objects come from the Angkor site.

In the afternoon, you will head to the coastline and Kep province. You will leave the crowded streets of the capital before reaching the old colonial city of Kep, wellknown for its crab market and pepper plantations. Settle down at the hotel at the end of the day.

Day 09 : : KEP - KOH TONSAY (rabbit island) - with GUIDE

Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning, enjoy some time to walk around the crab market to discover the local culinary specialties before embarking a fisherman's boat to reach the Koh Tonsay, also called the rabbit island (30 min.) and its white sandy beaches. Swim or enjoy a rest on the beach before lunch.

After lunch, you will discover the desert island through walking paths in the forest and the small forgotten beaches. Return transfer to your hotel late afternoon. (45min walk)
